To fight the summer, and knock the heat, we now have ‘Gudboy’ with us. Much awaited movie of Arindam and Priya Choudhury ‘Gudboy’ has been released across the state on Thursday. The movie has hit more than 60 cinema halls this time which might be a record. Cinema halls at Bhubaneswar and Cuttack seemed pack with audience today. After the first show people are marked singing ‘Goodboy…Goodboy…’ title track on their way back. After balunga toka, it seems to be going to be the next anthem of odia youth.
Arindam’s ‘Gudboy’ is himself. He is in center, in focus all through the movie. It is his movie and he hasn’t given the scope to anyone to dominate the movie. He is Raja – the protagonist, the questionable character who has committed a murder just at 10 years of age and gets 15 years imprisonment in jail. Time flies, the young man of 25, now returns back to society. He is determined to get a job and that too in a particular large mansion. What is the reason! Gradually, audience will witness the secret this house holds for Raja. Raja impresses the owner (Mihir Samantray) of house and his wife (Tulasi). As a driver, he gets the job and has gradually won the heart of both the owner and his wife. One day, situation drives Raja to tell Tulasi about his commitment to his dead mother and from that day, he starts to think Tulasi as his mother. Suspense builds as we see the photo of mother of Raja and Tulasi is same. We also see the definition of ‘Good’ boy or man. Mihir Das has been a respectable person in the eye of society having wealth, name and fame. But how he has achieved this! Not by any legal means but illegal and criminal means. Whereas, only because Raja has committed a crime at the age of 10, his code of conduct is questionable in this society. But has Raja really murdered a person! And isn’t there any serious reason for that! These doubts will get cleared as the story unfolds.

The story is well crafted with a twist and revelation here and there. It has well punch of drama, and the most praiseworthy is its comedy. Though Harihar Mahapatra seems to be in charge of comic scenes, but it is Minaketana(Police Inspector) who steals the show with his very casual rendering of Kolaveri Kolaveri di song. Even Arindam himself is best at his comic performance than the drama or emotional scenes. Priya Choudhury has been put in the story to play the love interest of Arindam and support him. She is good and bubbly all throughout the movie. Mihir Das has played an interesting character and he has played it really with all attitudes it deserves. Pintu Nanda is also in the movie as a negative character though he hasn’t got much screen time.
The style, treatment and the punch is really there in the ‘Gudboy’. The best thing in it apart from the comedy is its action sequences. Action is mind blowing and well directed. Using bicylcle’s part as instrument for fight is a nice idea. Editing of the movie is commendable. It is very well paced and well designed. Dialogues by Dr. Ranjani Ranjan are very catchy at the same time. ‘Mo bhauni jetebele tension heijae, mu setebele emotional heijae(when my sister gets tensed, I get emotional) is the best one which when told appears like a punch in the face. All the songs in the movie are very well put and memorable. As we know, the title ‘Gudboy gudboy’ is the best dance number and can be a youth anthem. ‘Duba duba’ song is also a very well composed bouncy number. The best one is ‘Tate mu jebethu bhala pauchi’ which is a romantic song, has not only great melody but is very well picturised also. All these beautiful songs are composed by Sri Baidyanath Dash who is new in the industry.
‘Gud Boy’ has been produced by Hrudanand Samal under the banner of Suryasankara Films of which ‘Gudboy’ is the first production. ‘Gudboy’ has comedy, love, emotion, drama and all in the movie. Apart from the strong masculine character of Raja, the brother-sister relationship has been very well defined in the movie. Overall, the movie is a must watch of the season and almost everything in the package to sit back, relax and enjoy.
